Carers play such a critical part in the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. We believe it is important that carers realise that they are not alone and know there is support available to help them lead a healthy and fulfilling life.

Our Carers Support Group has been operating for over a decade and is a hugely successful arm of our organisation, giving something back to carers and being a lifeline to many people in terms of providing respite and social interaction.

  • Just some of the benefits of joining our Carers Support Group, include:
  • Enjoy activities, outings, therapies and respite away from the home environment
  • Achieve balance in your life by taking time to ‘switch off’ from your role as a carer
  • Make new friends
  • Share your experiences with other carers who are in the same situation
  • Emotional and practical support

Here is what some of our carers had to say about how they have benefited from the activities and services provided by Parkinson’s Self Help Group:

“Gives me a chance to socialise outside of my family and I enjoy the chance to have therapies and outings.”
“I enjoy the company of others who understand me.”
“I get to go out with others, having conversation and company.”
“I feel less lonely and very relaxed with the therapies.”
“It is great to relax and know my husband is safe with the staff and carers in the group.”
“I have benefitted from the friendship received at the centre. As a Befriender I have found being with my befriendee has helped both of us.”
“Being in the group helps relieve stress both physically and mentally.”
“It gives me time to relax and recharge my batteries.”
